Tagwood BBQ BBQ03SI – Santa Maria Grill with Chief Series Live-Fire Control
A Chief Series Santa Maria grill with 4 cooking zones, built for durable everyday live-fire cooking.
714 sq. in. of grilling area spans four zones — main grate, height-adjustable secondary grate, interchangeable griddle, and S-shaped meat hooks — so you can sear, roast, griddle, and hang meats all in one session. The Santa Maria elevation system puts heat control in your hands: lower the grate for a hard sear, lift it as your fire settles for slower roasting. The Chief Series body uses 1/8" cold-rolled steel with a heat-resistant coating for structural strength, while every food-contact surface is 304 stainless steel for dependable durability. Refractory brick lining in the firebox helps retain and distribute heat evenly, and the whole unit rolls on 4 swivel casters with a foldable side table for practical everyday use.

Deep Dive — Chief Series Construction & Santa Maria System►
Santa Maria Elevation System for Traditional Heat Management
The BBQ03SI uses a true Santa Maria-style elevation system that allows you to raise or lower the grate over live coals or wood for better temperature control. Lower the grate for stronger searing heat or lift it higher for slower roasting and more controlled finishing as the fire develops.
Four Cooking Zones for Flexible Argentine-Style Grilling
With a main grate, height-adjustable secondary grate, interchangeable griddle, and S-shaped meat hooks, the Tagwood BBQ BBQ03SI supports multiple cooking techniques in one station. This 4-zone setup helps you cook proteins, vegetables, breads, and hanging cuts at different heat levels during the same session.
Chief Series Construction with Cold-Rolled Steel and 304 Stainless Steel Components
Part of the Chief Series, the BBQ03SI pairs a heavy-duty cold-rolled steel body with 304 stainless steel food-contact components for a smart balance of structural strength and cooking-surface durability. The heat-resistant coated frame is built for repeated outdoor use, while the stainless steel grates, griddle, and meat hooks provide dependable long-term resistance where food and fire meet.
Firebox and Refractory Brick Support for Better Heat Flow
The integrated firebox helps keep the active fire separated from the main cooking area for more controlled live-fire workflow. Refractory bricks on the bottom and side walls help spread heat more evenly, improve retention, and support longer product life during repeated grilling sessions.
Who It's For — The Deck & Den Take►
This one's for the backyard cook who wants real Santa Maria mechanics without paying for an all-stainless build. The cold-rolled steel body keeps things sturdy and more accessible, while the parts that actually touch your food — grates, griddle, hooks — are still 304 stainless steel where it counts. If you want every surface to be stainless, or you're setting up somewhere with heavy salt air or coastal exposure, one of the all-304 models will hold up better long-term. One thing worth knowing: the coated frame needs the same basic care as any coated steel — wipe it down and keep it dry when you can to get the most life out of it.
- Backyard cooks who want authentic Santa Maria heat control at a more accessible build tier
- Buyers who want 4-zone cooking flexibility without a large-footprint XL grill
- Live-fire enthusiasts who prioritize food-contact stainless steel over an all-stainless body
- Anyone who wants a freestanding, mobile setup rather than a built-in installation
